This is the moment a gunman tries to shoot a man dead on a London street after murdering a 15-year-old boy in the children's play area of a park.
Aderahman Boumzough, 25, was convicted on Friday or murder and attempted murder after the "senseless" violence in Ladbroke Grove.
The killer shot Rene Graham, 15, after calmly approaching the children's play area of Emslie Horniman's Pleasance Park before firing a single shot.
Rene, 15, suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and died at the scene in West London where a family music festival was taking place in the lead-up to the Notting Hill Carnival.
Boumzough left the scene before chasing and attempting to shoot a second victim however, the gun jammed and he fled.
Shocking footage released by the Metropolitan Police showed the moment he pulled the gun on his second victim and tried to shoot him in the street.
A murder investigation was launched after Rene was killed on Sunday, 21 July 2024, at around 7.20pm following reports of a shooting.
As the investigation progressed, Boumzough was identified as the suspect, with a compelling body of evidence steadily building against him and he was arrested on Tuesday, 2 September last year.
After he was charged, enquiries into his phone uncovered a video in which Boumzough rapped while appearing to reference the firearm malfunction, saying: “don’t you hate it when your ting jams? I was prepared to take soul, but Allah had a different plan.”
Following a two-week trial, Boumzough was found guilty of murder and attempted murder.
He faces life in jail when he is sentenced at Woolwich Crown Court on Friday, 3 July.
Rene’s heartbroken mother Janay John-Francois had previously spoken of her devastation at her son’s murder.
“It's broken, shattered my life... It's killing me on the inside," she said, describing her son as a "vibrant" teenager with the "biggest heart”.
When her son’s killer remained at large months on from the killing, Ms John-Francois expressed anger over the lack of progress in the murder investigation, telling Sky News: "I'm fuming because right now it seems I'm not going to get justice for my son."
She questioned how such a violent crime could go unsolved despite numerous witnesses, saying: "How does that happen? In broad daylight with over a thousand people in that small park?... it's beyond me."
A senior Met detective has thanked a small pocket of the Ladbroke Grove community for their support, following the conviction.
Detective Chief Inspector Alison Foxwell, who led the investigation, said: “Following Rene’s senseless murder, we made a direct plea to both the Ladbroke Grove community and those who had attended the event where he lost his life.
"A year on, we renewed that appeal, urging anyone with information to come forward and help us secure justice for Rene’s family.
“As part of that appeal, we released CCTV footage showing Boumzough pulling a firearm from his pocket in broad daylight, fleeing the scene, and attempting to shoot a second man as he made his escape.”
“While only a small number of people came forward, I would like to thank those individuals who provided statements and supported the investigation, including attending court, who refused to allow a dangerous individual such as Boumzough to live amongst them.
“This conviction is the result of relentless work by officers who painstakingly reviewed hundreds of hours of CCTV footage to trace the gunman’s movements before and after the shooting.”
DCI Foxwell added: “Rene’s murder was a tragic act of violence carried out at a popular family-friendly community event. Despite a large number of people being present, we faced significant challenges in obtaining crucial information in the early stages.
“Ultimately it took a small amount of information from members of the public, combined with the diligence and determination of our investigation team, to bring Boumzough to justice.
“My thoughts continue to remain with Rene’s family and friends. I thank them for their cooperation and patience throughout this investigation. I hope today’s conviction provides them with a form of closure.”
