An Iowa woman is facing charges after she allegedly abandoned her two young kids on a busy street corner and told them nobody loved them, according to a report.
Hiawatha police in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, received reports of an 8-year-old girl and a 6-year-old boy found wandering alone on Tower Terrace Road, according to KCRG.
After further investigation, officers discovered that the children's mother, Heather Ann Perez Miranda, had an alleged confrontation earlier that day with a man who they suspect to be the father. The dispute reportedly led to Miranda's decision to abandon her kids, the ABC affiliate reported.
The two kids reported that their mother kicked them out of her truck, after she yelled at them, according to the outlet. The young girl was said to have significant medical needs and relies on a g-tube implanted in her body after receiving a tracheostomy.
Surveillance footage confirmed to police that Miranda failed to ensure for her children's safety. Officers arrested Miranda on October 8 and booked her into the Linn County Correctional Center with a bail set at $25,000.
Miranda is facing several charges, including neglect and child endangerment. Following her arrest, a no-contact order was issued for the children and their father, who police say confirmed the incident.
