Moises Caicedo's classy gesture, referee forgets the rules: Arsenal moments missed vs Brighton

Arsenal's Premier League title hopes were all-but-ended by a 3-0 defeat to Brighton at the Emirates. The Gunners failed to really get going in a scrappy first half where Leandro Trossard and Martin Odegaard went closest.

Things did not change in the second period and Brighton eventually found themselves in front via a scrappy Julio Enciso goal befitting of such a poor game. Arsenal did not particularly look like making a comeback from that point although Trossard and the lively substitute Reiss Nelson had decent efforts.

As Arsenal had to attack more Brighton continued to get chances and Deniz Undav was able to take advantage of a fortunate deflection. The Gunners' fate was then compounded in extra time as Pervis Estupinan added a third. Here football.london looks back at some of the moments you may have missed during the game.

A legend returns

For those viewing this game at home there was quite a fun pundit line up. Roy Keane was in his usual place with Sky, but he was joined by Patrick Vieira.

Vieira wasn't the only Arsenal legend making a return to the Emirates. Nicklas Bendtner was back in attendance for this game with Brighton. The Dane managed 47 goals in his time with the Gunners and will be welcomed back by most.

Caicedo's classy gesture

This game felt like a potential dress rehearsal for Moises Caicedo. The Ecuadorian was the subject of interest from Arsenal in January and is still wanted by them this summer.

He didn't exactly endear himself to his possible new home with a poor early challenge on Gabriel Martinelli. The 21-year-old slid in from behind and caught Martinelli's ankle. The Arsenal winger soldiered on for a while, but was eventually forced off. In a touch of class Caicedo made sure to go over and offer Martinelli a handshake though after clearly feeling bad about the impact of his tackle.

Rules forgotten

The first half was one to forget for Andy Madley and his team of officials. The referee didn't make any catastrophic errors, but his management of the game certainly contributed to the stunted tempo of the match. In fairness to him though his struggles weren't the lowest moment in the first half.

As Arsenal prepared to take a quick throw in, the ball fell to Leandro Trossard. Assistant referee Constantine Hatzidakis then instantly raised his flag to signal for offside. The only problem with that of course is - as everybody knows - you can't be offside from a throw in. His blushes were thankfully spared by Madley who appeared to explain the rules to him via his earpiece prompting a quick lowering of the flag.
