Mohamed Salah 'wanted' for Barcelona transfer as Liverpool superstar lined up as Erling Haaland alternative

Barcelona are reportedly lining up a summer move for Liverpool star Mohamed Salah, as his contract talks rumble on.

The Egyptian has hit 153 goals in 238 games for Jurgen Klopp 's side but his current deal expires in the summer of 2023.

Barça have made Borussia Dortmund superstar Erling Haaland their top target for the summer but, according to AS, there's a feeling that Manchester City are leading the race.

The Catalan club will look to use their good relationship with agent Mino Raiola and the lure of living in the city to try and tempt the Norwegian but the newspaper believes Salah is their plan B.

Barcelona believe they could get their man for a fee of around £59million, and at the age of 29 Salah still has plenty of top level football left in him.

Given the financial situation at Camp Nou they would likely have to make sales first but their Financial Fair Play cap is set to be higher for next season.

If Salah has not renewed by the time the window opens Liverpool may look to cash in and recoup some value for their star man.

Spanish journalist Jorge Romero reports that Lionel Messi's camp have also reached out to Barça about the potential of a return.

However, his €30million (£25m) net salary per season is seen as being too high for the La Liga giants to afford, while Paris Saint-Germain will not want to lose the Argentine star after just one season.
