Jurgen Klopp moved to clarify his comments regarding Mohamed Salah’s future in his latest press conference, insisting that it is not his desire to make headlines about the Liverpool forward’s contract and that the Reds were content with the situation behind the scenes.
The past five days present a different narrative though, after the German’s suggestion that the decision was "pretty much" down to the 29-year-old and that the club "did what the club can do" over their offer. The Liverpool boss might have felt he had been ‘trapped’ by last Friday’s questioning that resulted in such an answer, but it was all Salah ’s agent, Ramy Abass, needed to offer an alternative view on negotiations.
Posting seven laughing emojis on Twitter little over an hour after Klopp’s comments , reports later on Friday evening suggested that contract talks had broken down in December, that the Egyptian had no intention of signing the current offer in front of him and, if he couldn’t agree fresh terms with the Reds, was willing to move to a Premier League rival.
