Mohamed Salah forced off after 32 minutes in FA Cup final sparking serious injury concern

Liverpool have been dealt a major injury blow in their quadruple pursuit after Mohamed Salah was taken off in the FA Cup final against Chelsea.

The Egyptian winger went down holding his groin and spent a couple of minutes down receiving treatment from the Liverpool physios. They came to the conclusion Salah could not continue and was replaced in the 32nd minute by Diogo Jota.

Although the extent of Salah's injury is still unknown, this could not just prove to be a serious concern for the remainder of the game against Chelsea, but for the Reds' final three matches of the season and quadruple charge. Following the FA Cup final, Liverpool travel to Southampton on Tuesday night as they look to keep the pressure on league leaders Manchester City.

This is all before the final day of the season, when the Reds host Wolverhampton Wanderers. Then, Klopp's side have six days' rest ahead of the Champions League final against Real Madrid - a game Salah will be desperate to play in and exact revenge.

The 29-year-old was taken off in the 2018 final defeat against Los Blancos after colliding with Sergio Ramos, subsequently suffering a shoulder injury. He tweeted "we have a score to settle" following their 5-2 semi-final success over Villarreal and Real Madrid's win over Manchester City last week.

Liverpool will face an anxious wait over Salah's fitness as they assess him before their trip to St Mary's Stadium. The forward is currently the Premier League's leading goalscorer, having netted 22 times this season - one ahead of Tottenham Hotspur's Heung min-Son and three more than Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo.

He has also grabbed 13 assists in the league - more than any other player - proving how important he is to the Reds attack. Luis Diaz, Sadio Mane and Jota have also chipped in with some important contributions this season but none have even got close to Salah's numbers.

Klopp is expected to be asked about Salah's condition in his post-match interview. The former Chelsea man has not missed a game through injury all season, meaning he has featured in 48 games across all competitions for club and country, but could be a doubt for the remaining matches.

On Salah's injury, Jermaine Jenas told the BBC: "This is a big worry, Salah is not the type of player who just takes a seat. He plays a lot of games, a lot of minutes, he’s had a long season – I know most Liverpool players have but chuck the African Cup of Nations into that as well."
