Moderna disclosed that its experimental mRNA norovirus vaccine did not meet the statistical criteria for early success at a planned interim analysis of its phase 3 trial, a setback for what remains the most advanced effort worldwide to prevent a virus that causes an estimated 19 million to 21 million cases of vomiting and diarrhea in the United States each year.
The company reported the result in its second-quarter financial results, saying the trial is ongoing, remains blinded, and that it is working toward enrolling an additional cohort.
