Mod Sun has broken his silence one week after Avril Lavigne reportedly called off their engagement without telling him.
Taking to Instagram on Tuesday, the 35-year-old singer-songwriter — whose real name is Derek Ryan Smith — reflected on the break-up in the caption alongside a slideshow of pictures from his current tour.
“In one week my entire life completely changed,” he wrote. “I just know there’s a plan for it all. I’ll keep my head up (and) always listen to my heart, even when it feels broken.”
Sk8er Boi hit-maker Lavigne, 38, and Mod Sun got engaged in March 2022 after just over a year of dating.
She said yes after he got down on one knee in Paris and presented her with a heart-shaped diamond ring.
However, Mod Sun is now said to have been left blindsided when a representative for Lavigne confirmed to Page Six that she had called off their engagement.
For his part, his own representative said on the same day that they were unaware of the development.
Sources told TMZ that Lavigne and Mod Sun had been “on and off” over the last few months which is believed to have ultimately led to the split.
Mod Sun and the Canadian songstress had previously featured regularly on each other’s social media accounts, however their last post together was at Christmas when they shared a video of them ice skating together.
