The MLB trade deadline saw a flurry of activity as playoff hopeful teams made significant moves to bolster their rosters. The St. Louis Cardinals acquired starting pitcher Erick Fedde, while the Milwaukee Brewers added starter Frankie Montas in a rare trade between division rivals. The Kansas City Royals obtained veteran right-hander Michael Lorenzen, and the Los Angeles Dodgers picked up hard-throwing reliever Michael Kopeck in a three-team deal.

In another notable trade, the Dodgers reacquired utilityman Amed Rosario from the Tampa Bay Rays, adding depth to their roster. The reigning World Series champion Texas Rangers traded Lorenzen to the Royals, while the NL wild-card leader Atlanta Braves made a deal with the San Francisco Giants for outfielder Jorge Soler and right-handed reliever Luke Jackson.

Both the Houston Astros and the Seattle Mariners made trades with the Toronto Blue Jays. The Mariners acquired veteran Justin Turner, while the Astros added left-hander Yusei Kikuchi to their rotation. The AL Central leader Cleveland Guardians added outfielder Lane Thomas from the Washington Nationals.
