SEATTLE - It was the Marcell Ozuna show over the weekend in Miami. The Dominican's bat was on fire, going 7-for-13 with one double, eight RBI and two homers, including a go-ahead dinger at the top of the ninth inning to give the Braves the series win over the Marlins.
Down to the Braves' final strike, Ozuna slugged a three-run homer to give Atlanta a 9-7 win over the Marlins on Sunday. The big fly he connected against Tanner Scott was his seventh of the season, taking him to the top of the Majors tied with the Red Sox's Tyler O'Neill.
"This is a place that I grew up, this is the team that gave me the opportunity as a professional baseball player and I feel comfortable here," said Ozuna, who spent the first five seasons of his career as an outfielder for the Marlins.
Between 2013 and 2017, Ozuna played in Marlins' colors, earning the only two All-Star appearances of his career with the franchise. In five years in South Beach, Ozuna connected 96 HR, the most with a single franchise in his career.
The veteran Ozuna has been on quite a hot streak in the past week. He leads the Majors in batting average (.458), is tied in first for hits (11) and is second in RBI (11) in the past seven days and the Dominican is batting .444 in the month of April.
The Santo Domingo native has a hit in 13 of his 14 games this season, with the only exception being Opening Day vs the Phillies where he went 0-for-5 and Sunday's clash with the Marlins was his sixth game of the season with multiple hits.
