The Diamondbacks, despite their late push, fell short of the playoffs, thanks to a Phillies win on Sunday against the Rays. Meanwhile, the final domino to fall in the American League went in favor of the Astros, who secured the AL West title with a victory over the Athletics on Sunday. Houston becomes the worst team to ever make the playoffs in a 162-game season, sneaking in and winning the division with just an 81–81 record.
