SEATTLE - Juan Soto makes baseball look so easy. This time around, the Dominican had another big time weekend as the New York Yankees completed a sweep overt the San Francisco Giants on the road.
With the sweep, the Yankees have won five games in a bounce and are looking like the best team in the entire MLB right now, and a lot of it has to do with Soto.
The Santo Domingo native batted for .500 with four RBI, a triple, two homers and scored in five runs over the weekend against the Giants. The most incredible thing is how natural he makes it look.
Trailing in the ninth inning, Soto stepped up to connect his 17th homer of the season and second of the game to give the Yankees a 7-5 win over the Giants.
His two homers against San Francisco was the 20th instance in his career with a multi-HR game. According to MLB researcher Sarah Langs, only two players in the entire history of the majors have more multi-HR games before turning 26 than the Dominican: Mel Ott (24) and Eddie Matthews (21).
"That's what he does. We've seen it all year long," said team captain Aaron Jugdge. "He comes up in big moments, against one of the best closers in the game, throwing it up to 102 miles an hour. I had a nice front-row seat for that one. That was impressive."
And Soto has been doing impressive things all year. That's why the Yankees have won 22 of their last 27 games.
Such has been his season that Soto currently ranks among the top 5 in most batting categories such as runs (3rd - 46), hits (4th - 75), home runs (4th - 17), RBI (2nd - 53) and he is posting an OPS of 1.031, the second best in MLB only behind his teammate Aaron Judge.
