The 13–7 Pirates are the most surprising team in Major League Baseball through the first few weeks of the 2023 season, but they should really be ashamed by what their catcher pulled off in Thursday night’s win over the Reds.
In case you missed it, Austin Hedges tried to throw a runner out at second when he noticed his throw was really bad and was going to land somewhere in the outfield.
Instead of just living with his obvious mistake he decided to do a wild flop that caused the home plate umpire to call hitter’s interference and called the runner out at second.
This was bad:

MLB fans were not impressed:
Truly embarrassing play from Hedges https://t.co/VsJlRANu7Q

Nah I’d be pissed if I was the Reds manager. Batter stayed in the box and didn’t touch the catcher. Catcher flopped once in airmailed into Center. https://t.co/78Qf8pEqbZ

Catcher should be banned for life https://t.co/KBBjNVByZF
