Mixed Cardiff City v West Brom player ratings as Kaba makes big impact but others endure tough night

Ryan Allsop 7

West Brom barely troubled him in the first half. Can't be held accountable for the goal. Made a top save to deny Jed Wallace from close range after the break and was calm when crosses came flooding in late on.

Mahlon Romeo 6

Put in a couple of really big challenges early on and burst up the right-hand side a couple of times. Good to see him back in the fold.

Perry Ng 5

Just doesn't look as comfortable in a back four, which is understandable as it's not his natural position. Daryl Dike got across him too easily for the opener.

Mark McGuinness 7

With a wing-back one side of him and a right-back the other side, Cardiff needed his height, reach and physicality. Can hold his head up high after that one.

Callum O'Dowda 5

Stuck in a couple of crosses, but had no targets of note to really hit, which was disappointing. Might have done better to stop Jed Wallace's cross for Dike's goal.

Jaden Philogene 6

Once again the main bright light from a forward sense, especially early on. Looked tricky and caused a few problems, letting off a few shots. A couple more of him might have troubled the opposition's defence some more.

Romaine Sawyers 5

Another who started slowly. Couldn't pick his passes as he would have liked and looked frustrated at the options ahead. Got better as it went on.

Ryan Wintle 5

A couple of sloppy moments, including a backheel which went wrong and started a Baggies counter, but generally did OK in there. Put in a stunning cross for Kaba to head home.

Sheyi Ojo 5

Had three shots and all were well, well wide in the first half. A couple of misplaced passes, too. After being in good form lately, it felt like a bit of regression from him. His crossing was poor in the second half, too.

Kion Etete 5

Had a difficult task of shouldering the aerial battles on his own and got swallowed up a lot of the time. Didn't offer much of a goal threat.

Isaak Davies 5

It just didn't work, bringing him back in the side. He was brought in to stretch the defence but scarcely did that. Had one good chance when a deflected shot fell into his path, but he could only hit the side netting. Off at the break.

Subs

Sory Kaba (Davies 46) 7 (star man)- Made a difference when he came on. Latched on to Wintle's cross and buried his header. His third goal for the club.

Mark Harris (Ojo 71) 5 - Did OK when he was introduced. Not a lot to show for it but ran his socks off on that far side.

Andy Rinomhota (Etete 82) NA
