Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell reportedly fell and cut the left side of his face on Tuesday after a lunch with fellow Republican senators, Capitol journalists reported. Medical staff was seen going into his office along with a wheelchair.
McConnell did not join the GOP leadership press conference after the incident, but Senate Majority Leader-Elect John Thune told press that the senator is "fine" and "in his office." "Any other questions about Senator McConnell, I'll refer to staff," he added.

It is a new health-related episode for McConnell, who last year broke a rib and suffered a concussion after another fall that landed him in the hospital for a brief period. He also made headlines for health-related issues after freezing twice in the span of a month while speaking to reporters.
Back then, he paused for more than 30 seconds when asked if he would run for re-election in 2026. After that, he answered two more questions, which had to be repeated by staff. "Leader McConnell felt momentarily lightheaded and paused during his press conference today," a spokesperson said after the incident.
McConnell, 82, will step down from his post as GOP Senate leader, marking the end of the longest stint for such a post in American history. He has not clarified whether he will leave his post as Kentucky Senator, a seat he has held for almost 40 years.
He was instrumental in bringing Donald Trump to power in January 2017 as the party underwent dramatic changes, before falling out with Trump over the former president's baseless claims to have won the 2020 election.
