A Missouri woman was sentenced in court for allegedly kidnapping and murdering a woman and her unborn child in 2022.

Amber Waterman was ordered to serve two consecutive life sentences by a federal judge, one for each of the charges levied against her. Waterman, 44, was charged with kidnapping resulting in death and causing the death of an unborn child. She pleaded guilty to these charges in July.

She has also been ordered to pay $105,000 in restitution, reported Ozarks First.

Waterman effectively admitted to kidnapping 33-year-old Ashley Bush in a scheme to claim Bush's unborn child as her own, said a release from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Missouri.

Waterman's husband, Jamie Waterman, also pleaded guilty to one count of being an accessory of kidnapping resulting in death. He is yet to be sentenced.

"This horrific crime resulted in the tragic deaths of two innocent victims," U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Missouri Teresa Moore said in a statement. "Today's guilty plea holds this defendant accountable for her actions and ensures that justice will be served. She is now subject to a mandatory sentence of life in federal prison without parole."

Relatives of Bush spoke at Waterman's sentencing hearing, saying that Waterman had "a black soul" or that she was the "face of Satan". One relative said she prayed that the "suffering comes back tenfold" to Waterman.

According to autopsy results, Bush was killed by penetrating trauma to her torso. Her death was ruled a homicide.
