A Missouri police officer and mother of six children tragically lost her life after losing control of her patrol vehicle and crashing into a tree while in pursuit of a suspect who fled a traffic stop.
The incident occurred in Osage Beach, Missouri, where Officer Phylicia Carson, 33, was involved in a high-speed chase with a suspect identified as 23-year-old Christopher Aaron Bishop Wehmeyer. Wehmeyer had initially been pulled over for speeding on U.S. Highway 54 by another officer before fleeing the scene.
Officer Carson joined the pursuit to apprehend Wehmeyer, but tragically, her patrol vehicle skidded off the road and collided with a tree. The impact caused her vehicle to burst into flames, resulting in fatal injuries for Carson.
Carson, who had been with the Osage Beach police department since 2023, leaves behind her husband and six children. The community and law enforcement officials are mourning the loss of a dedicated officer and loving mother.
Wehmeyer now faces felony charges for resisting arrest and creating a substantial risk of death. Authorities have not disclosed whether he has legal representation at this time.
Missouri Governor Mike Parson expressed his condolences and stated that Officer Carson's sacrifice and service will not be forgotten. The tragic incident serves as a reminder of the dangers law enforcement officers face in the line of duty.
