Mariah Thomas, a 28-year-old Kansas City mother, will spend more than a decade in prison after pleading guilty in the death of her infant daughter. Thomas made national headlines in early 2024 after claiming she had “accidentally” put her one-month-old baby inside a hot oven for a nap, allegedly mistaking it for a crib.
On Sept. 22, 2026, Thomas learned her fate in Jackson County court after reaching a plea agreement that spared her from a first-degree murder conviction.
