A man is scheduled to be executed in Missouri on Tuesday for the fatal shooting of a state trooper over two decades ago. Lance Shockley, 48, was condemned for the murder of Missouri State Highway Patrol Sgt. Carl Dewayne Graham Jr. in March 2005.

Prosecutors alleged Shockley lay in wait for hours near Sgt Graham Jr.'s Van Buren home in southeast Missouri, ambushing him with a rifle and shotgun as he exited his patrol vehicle. Shockley is due to receive a lethal injection after 6 p.m. local time at the state prison in Bonne Terre, Missouri.
