Mission: Impossible stars fear they 'might lose Tom Cruise' in death-defying stunts

A Mission: Impossible star has spoken of his fear that "something might go wrong" on-set while Tom Cruise films daring stunts, with him even voicing his concern for "losing Tom".

Simon Pegg stars in the new film Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, with him reprising the role of Benji Dunn, a role he has played in the franchise since 2006.

Attending the movie's premiere in Rome on Monday, Simon, who starred in films such as Run Fatboy Run, explained how the cast and crew worry about leading man Tom - who has a love for daring scenes - whenever he shoots a death-defying stunt.

Speaking while on the red carpet at the glitzy Italian premiere, British actor Simon explained how he's "lucky" because his character tends to "stay behind the computer".

"Tom is jumping off cliffs on a motorbike he’s hanging his you know, hanging off trains — it’s genuinely dangerous stuff," he then added while chatting to Deadline.

Simon then provided a glimpse of the worries that the cast and crew have when Tom does his famous stunts.

The actor said: "There’s always a sense that, you know, one day, something might go wrong we might lose Tom, you know.

"Anytime there’s a big stunt, we all have that sense of, you know, fear, but he always pulls it off."

In the first trailer for the new movie, which comes out next month, Tom's character Ethan Hunt - the IFM agent he first played back in 1996 - could be seen in some action-packed scenes.

In the preview from May 17, the trailer showed Tom speeding off the edge of a cliff while riding a motorbike, before heading into the middle of a knife fight on the top of a train.

Another snippet then saw the train that Ethan was stood atop nosediving into the water below as it fell from a bridge.

This comes shortly after Mission: Impossible director, John Woo, spoke out about a stunt he "refused" to let Tom do.

The stunt in question took place in Mission: Impossible 2 when the Hollywood actor scaled a mountain without any equipment.

"I refused," John recently told Letterboxd, adding: "I was angry and worried."

He then spoke of how he thinks that "the most dangerous and scary moment" was when they were shooting the scene and Tom "climbed 2,000 feet up a cliff by himself".

Tom reportedly "didn't allow him" to use stunt doubles and "wanted to do all the action by himself". John then added that it was "insane".

Apparently Tom was even "begging" John to do the stunt, with the director admitting that he was "scared" because he had "no protection".

"But the scene turned out really great," he concluded.
