A vulnerable British man has been found dead in Lanzarote after he failed to board his flight home.
Robert Campbell had been due to fly home last Thursday after enjoying his first-ever holiday abroad but missed his flight after falling unwell and being admitted to hospital.
The 44-year-old became separated from his friend Paddy at the airport and then became uncontactable and went missing, the Daily Record reported.
His sister, Margueritte Devine, has now sadly confirmed that her brother was found dead on Tuesday night.
A GoFundMe page has now been launched to help cover the costs of bringing Robert home and his funeral.
Robert was from Uddington, a small town in South Lanarkshire, Scotland.
Margueritte wrote: “Sadly our brother died in Lanzarote yesterday and we’re left with a bill of 6 and 10 thousand pounds in funeral fees. We are desperate to get him home asap so I am writing this to reach out from my heart to help us bring him home.”
Tributes have been pouring in on social media.
One wrote: “Gutted to hear the passing of our Uncle Robert Campbell who was reported missing in Lanzarote has been found dead. First time going on holiday and not returning. RIP until we meet again. Fly high.”
Another said: "I’m so sorry to hear this. I have been sharing the missing posts for Robert and was hoping so much that he would be found safe and well."
A further post wrote: "It is with great sadness to announce, Robert Campbell who was reported missing by his family, in Lanzarote, has grown his angel wings. I am so sorry to Robert’s friends and family for their loss. My heart goes out to them all. Robert’s family have asked everyone to respect their privacy."
