Missing dog scam warning as pet owners are conned out of thousands

A mother-of-two has told how she lost £500 in a scam after she posted an appeal to help find her missing pet, while a dog charity warns of a disturbing number of similar cases involving cons and vile threats.

Holly Thackeray paid out the money after her much-loved dog Chapo escaped from her garden and a man responded to the appeals she made on social media, claiming to have kidnapped the American Bulldog.

The 31-year-old said she genuinely believed he had her dog and sent £500 when he threated to kill Chapo if she didn't, reports The Mirror, revealing several cases of scammers preying upon dog owners by pretending they have kidnapped their pet and demanding money for its safe return.
