Missed it in theaters? Here's every movie finally arriving on streaming in May 2026

Missed that critically acclaimed blockbuster in theaters? If you're a cinephile like me, your goal is to see every movie when it comes out in theaters. But if you're a parent like me, you know that sometimes it's just not possible to do that. Heck, I literally watch movies for my job, and even I can't catch every movie when it comes out.

Here's the good news, though: You don't have to. Thanks to an array of streaming services, just about every movie eventually becomes available to stream at home. The question then becomes, which ones should you watch first?

That's why we're here. At Tom's Guide, our staff watches hundreds of movies each year so that we can provide you with expert opinions on many of the new movies coming to streaming. Below, you'll find our takes on some of the biggest theatrical releases coming to streaming this month, as well as the full calendar of every movie that's finally coming to streaming in May 2026.

Top movies to stream this May

'Wuthering Heights' (HBO Max)

Genre: Romantic period drama

What's it about? Loosely adapted from the 1847 novel by Emily Brontë, "Wuthering Heights" stars Margot Robbie as Cathy (Charlotte Mellington as young Cathy). She is the daughter of the well-to-do Mr. Earnshaw (Martin Clunes), and is close with Heathcliff (Jacob Elordi [Owen Cooper as young Heathcliff]), a poor boy Mr. Earnshaw took in. They love each other, but because of their social standing, their love does not have a happy ending.

Why you need to watch it: In her review of "Wuthering Heights," Tom's Guide's own Alix Blackburn called it "visually stunning, with sizzling chemistry, immersive sound, and moody gothic romance that draws you in." Admittedly, she also felt it left a "sour aftertaste" with the way it romanticized toxic relationships.

'Hallow Road' (Hulu)

Genre: Psychological horror

What's it about? This psychological horror film stars Rosamund Pike and Matthew Rhys as Maddie, a paramedic, and her husband Frank. This married couple lives a normal life, until one night, when they decide to attempt to help their daughter cover up the evidence of a car accident that she caused.

Why you need to watch it: In his review of "Hallow Road," TG's Rory Mellon declared the movie a "masterful chiller." He even ranked it in his top 10 favorite movies of 2025 (and he saw more than 110 movies in theaters last year). It's only 80 minutes long, so there's no reason to skip this one once it's streaming on Hulu.

'Send Help' (Peacock)

Genre: Survival horror thriller

What's it about? "Send Help" stars Rachel McAdams as Linda Liddle. She's a corporate strategist who doesn't fit in with her company's culture. That all changes when the company's private jet crashes at sea, leaving Linda and her boss, Bradley (Dylan O'Brien), the sole survivors. Now, Linda, who once auditioned to be on "Survivor," is the one with all the power.

Why you need to watch it: In my review of "Send Help," I praised Sam Raimi for balancing the light with the dark in this survival horror film. Multiple people die in this movie, and there are some real jump scares, too. But it's also over-the-top and funny in the way that Raimi does best.

'Greenland 2: Migration' (HBO Max)

Genre: Action thriller

What's it about? In "Greenland 2: Migration," the Garrity family leaves the Greenland bunker they fought so hard to get to in "Greenland." Now, they're in a race against the clock — and radiation storms — to get to the crater caused by Clarke striking the Earth near southern France, which some believe could become the next cradle of human civilization.

Why you should watch it: In my review of "Greenland 2: Migration," I praised the movie's ability to still craft a spectacular action set piece or two. Unfortunately, I couldn't praise it for much else. It's an okay movie, but the original "Greenland" was much better. Only watch this one if you feel like being a completionist.

'Normal' (PVOD)

Genre: Action crime thriller

What's it about? Ulysses (Odenkirk) is the new sheriff of Normal, Minnesota. The old one died suddenly, so Ulysses has been brought in to temporarily fill in for eight weeks until a replacement is found. But when he gets there, he learns that the Yakuza are using the town as a bank for their ill-gotten gains, and the town is in on it.

Why you should watch it: "Normal" has hints of "Fargo," "Yojimbo" and "Seven Samurai." It's a perfectly fine movie, and the premise is compelling. But aside from a few incredible kills, there's not a whole lot to this action thriller. I'd rather watch "Nobody," if I needed to see Odenkirk kill people.

'Shelter' (Starz)

Genre: Action thriller

What's it about? Jason Statham is Michael, a former British government assassin living in isolation off the coast of Scotland. He's trying to stay retired, but he's forced back into a life of violence when he finds himself protecting a young girl from the same clandestine agency determined to eliminate him.

Why you should watch it: In his review of "Shelter" for Tom's Guide, Josh Bell declared this movie one for the Statham fans. If you like his particular brand of action or liked his 2024 movie, "The Beekeeper," then you'll almost certainly enjoy this action thriller.
