Kelley used her own history-making moment as the direct answer to the evening's final question, which asked how her potential win might reflect the changing face of American women. "We are here tonight celebrating the 75th anniversary of Miss USA, but we also have an opportunity to make history tonight," she told the judges, before laying out her own story: married to her college sweetheart of nine years, and a foster parent, alongside her husband, to two children. Reflecting on becoming the first titleholder to hold all three distinctions at once, Kelley later said, "I look at this like a responsibility to know that I was trusted to be the first," adding that she "won't be the last."
