As she prepares to entertain another packed audience with her latest stand-up show, comedy queen Miss Rory had a surprising career change, joining TUI staff at Newcastle Airport for one day only,
And it was a very apt switch of vocation for the Boulevard and Sunderland Empire panto favourite, as she is readying her Winging It show for the Tyne Theatre next month, having previously sold out the famous venue with productions including last year's smash hit Land of Hope and Rory.
Miss Rory, who will be back in residence at the Tyne Theatre on Friday, May 12, posed up a storm as she joined cabin crew at Newcastle Airport to wheel her case through arrivals and man the check-in desk before becoming the pilot's assistant and heading on board a TUI plane; looking very much like she was about to give a safety demonstration or serve something from the trolley.
The crew were delighted to welcome their new recruit and were impressed by her abilities. Emma Gailes who’s been flying with TUI for 24 years, said: “It takes a lot of training to be a great crew member, but Miss Rory’s performance today got 5 stars from us.
"She’d definitely put a smile on customers’ faces and get people in the mood for their holidays. If she ever gets tired of showbusiness there’s a place on the plane for her at TUI – although she might need to wear some different shoes”.
First Officer, John Beevers, gave her cockpit appearance a thumbs up too. “Miss Rory was very comfortable taking charge and has obvious leadership skills which are critical to being a Captain. And she certainly wasn’t afraid to take to the controls. We’d love to have her join the flight deck crew!”
Fans can see Miss Rory playing her aviation roles in Miss Rory: Winging It at Newcastle’s Tyne Theatre & Opera House, with tickets available from www.tynetheatreandoperahouse.uk or Box Office on 0844 249 1000.
