If you don’t yet know the name Miso Extra, it won’t be long before you’re well acquainted. The London-based vocalist, rapper and producer has been quietly gaining a reputation as one of the capital’s most exciting rising stars, since releasing her first single in 2021.
Born in Hong Kong to a British father and Japanese mother, Miso Extra spent her childhood in Buckinghamshire watching Studio Ghibli movies, listening to classic jazz and 90s hip-hop. The result of her musical education is a genre-defying sound that flits between dance, pop, rap, and R&B – always maintaining a soothing, addictive quality. She calls it her ‘Misoverse’, which is also her answer when I ask where in London she’s based.
