Mipo Odubeko makes first Ireland under-21 start in must-win Sweden game

Mipo Odubeko will make his first start at under-21 level as Ireland take on Sweden in a must-win Euro qualifier in Boras this evening.

The West Ham United striker, who is on loan with Doncaster Rovers, has returned to the international fold after a three-year absence.

His self-imposed exile was to allow him make strides at club level and he’s done that with senior loan spells in the Championship with Huddersfield Town and League One Donnie.

The Tallaght man, 19, previously had spells with Manchester City and Manchester United before turning down a deal from the latter to join the Hammers.

He’s joined in a new-look frontline by Ollie O’Neill, the Derby County wideman whose last-minute striker earned Ireland the three points when these sides met in Tallaght.

Bournemouth star Gavin Kilkenny is also handed a starting berth, while West Ham's Conor Coventry captains the side in midfield.

Ireland U21 lineup: Brian Maher; Oisin McEntee, Jake O'Brien, Mark McGuinness, Joel Bagan; Lee O'Connor, Conor Coventry, Ross Tierney; Gavin Kilkenny, Ollie O'Neill, Mipo Odubeko.
