Minnesota Pastor Killed While Serving As Missionary In Africa

Beau Shroyer, a pastor from Minnesota, was killed while serving as a missionary in Angola.

A Minnesota pastor who had moved his family to Africa to spread Christianity was tragically killed in an act of violence. Beau Shroyer, 44, a former pastor with Lakes Area Vineyard Church in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, relocated with his wife and five children to Angola in 2021 to serve as missionaries with SIM USA, an organization dedicated to sharing the gospel.

Shroyer's death occurred while he was serving in Angola, although specific details surrounding the incident remain unclear. The community at Lakes Area Vineyard Church expressed deep sorrow for Shroyer's wife, children, and extended family, while also finding solace in the belief that Shroyer is now with the Lord.

Prior to their move, Shroyer described the remote village in Angola where they resided as lacking basic amenities such as electricity, sewer, and water systems. Shroyer had previously worked in law enforcement and real estate before embarking on his missionary journey.

In his social media posts, Shroyer highlighted the challenges faced by the Nyneka people in Angola, particularly in accessing education and vocational training. He shared moments of community engagement, such as assisting with agricultural activities and receiving services from local businesses.

The tragic event has prompted an outpouring of support from both the local church community and the organization Shroyer was affiliated with. SIM USA's president, Randy Fairman, is traveling to Angola to be with Shroyer's family during this difficult time.

Despite the profound loss, Shroyer's commitment to sharing the message of hope and transformation through faith has left a lasting impact on those who knew him. The community is grappling with the unexplainable nature of the tragedy while finding comfort in their faith and the belief that Shroyer's legacy of service will endure.
