Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz attended three fundraisers in the Washington, DC, area on Wednesday, where he highlighted the significance of voter turnout and criticized the policies and rhetoric of former President Donald Trump.
At a gathering hosted by former US Ambassador to Romania Alfred Moses in Georgetown, Walz condemned Trump's language, particularly his characterization of political opponents as 'the enemy from within,' which Walz described as 'the reddest of all red lines.' He also expressed apprehension about Trump's proposal to eliminate civil service protections for federal employees.
Addressing a group of DC residents, Walz emphasized the importance of the professionals in government and expressed concern over the potential threats they face under Trump's administration.
At another event hosted by Rep. David Trone in Potomac, Maryland, Walz referenced reports indicating that Trump planned to visit a McDonald's restaurant in Pennsylvania to work the fry cooker. Walz remarked that Trump's behavior might be amusing if he were a comedian, but criticized him for campaigning on issues that Walz opposes. He also took issue with Trump's claim of being 'the father of IVF' at a recent town hall.
Walz urged attendees to focus on mobilizing supporters before Election Day, acknowledging that many voters are firmly in support of Trump. He emphasized the importance of reaching out to individuals who may not fully align with Vice President Kamala Harris or who have not previously participated in elections, suggesting that their turnout could play a crucial role in the outcome of the election.
