Sky Sports pundits Sue Smith and Stephen Warnock disagreed with former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher and says Fulham should have had a penalty prior to the one that was given against Newcastle United. Like the majority of those watching the game, the duo felt Dan Burn was fortunate to still be on the pitch after bringing down Fulham midfielder Andreas Pereira inside the area.
However, referee Robert Jones waved away Fulham's protests, with VAR siding with the on field decision. Gallagher told Sky Sports: "Not a foul, minimum contact, referee - if you see - waves straight away, tells the player to get up. Look at the ref here in the back he waves it away straight away.
"So for me, not a foul. If it was a foul it would have been a red card, but I don't think it's a foul."

Fulham were later awarded a penalty when Kieran Trippier was adjudged to have fouled Bobby Decordova-Reid, but upon close inspection, it was the Newcastle defender who was stood on first. Former Leeds United forward Smith said: "I thought this was a penalty [Dan Burn's foul].
"I didn't think the second one was because Decordova-Reid steps on Trippier's foot, so I think it would have been the other way round. But, I actually thought that was more of a penalty and like you said, if that had have been, it would have been a red card."
Warnock added: "I agree with Sue. I thought it was a penalty. I thought the arm on the shoulder is so, so dangerous. When you're running as well and get that arm on the shoulder, the slightest pull when you're running at speed, can cause so many problems.
"I thought that was a penalty and a sending off."
Kieran Trippier was also left bemused by the decision to award a penalty. He thought VAR had gone back for the foul by Burn on Pereira.
"There,” he said, pointing at his foot post-match. “I’ve got a massive cut. I can’t even remember going in for a tackle.
“I thought it was Dan’s challenge,” Trippier said. “When that happened, I thought, ‘It’s going to be a penalty here’, and when the referee said it was me, I couldn’t believe it. All I can remember is De Cordova-Reid standing on my foot. I can remember him standing on top of me.”
