Ryan Fox's "mind-blowing" British Open triumph has left the whole of New Zealand giddy with pride as the small Pacific nation celebrates only its fourth golf major champion.
When Fox rolled in a 12-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole at Royal Birkdale to win The Open Championship by one shot in Southport, England, it was just past 5.30am in his homeland and the sun hadn't yet risen.
Most New Zealanders awoke on Monday to a wintry morning and the news of Fox's incredible breakthrough transcended the sports-mad country.
