Milnathort runner Laura Muir wins 1500m gold at Commonwealth Games

Milnathort runner Laura Muir has won stunning 1500m gold at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

The former Kinross High School pupil personified determination to take control of the race and storm to a special victory.

Muir burst clear of the rest of the field with little under 500m remaining and then never looked in danger of taking anything less than the top spot on the podium.

The winning time was 4:02.75 ahead of Ciara Mageean of Northern Ireland and Australia’s Abbey Caldwell.

Speaking shortly after the win, a delighted Muir smiled: “I just ran as hard as I could to that line.”

Muir's success at 1500m distance followed on from winning bronze in the 800m.
