As many as six million homes could be facing power cuts and rationed electricity this winter.
According to The Times, the Government have been drawing up plans for rationed electricity if supply issues deteriorate as a "reasonable" worst case scenario. Ministers predict major gas shortages if Russia cuts off more supplies to the EU.
Limits could be imposed on industrial use of gas, including on gas-fired power stations, causing electricity shortages. As a result many homes may see their energy supply rationed, mostly during morning and evening peaks.
