If you keep all of your precious family photos and videos on Apple's iCloud platform there's bad news. It's been confirmed that Apple is hiking the price of its popular storage subscriptions with millions now facing much higher fees to keep their files safe.
Until now, users could sign up for a standard 50GB plan and pay just 79p per month but that price now jumps to 99p per month. Things get even worse for those who subscribe to 200GB of storage with this service now rising from £2.49 per month to £2.99. Finally, there's the massive 2TB option which now costs £8.99 rather than the older price of £6.99.
It is worth noting that Apple still has its free storage available but this only offers 5GB of space which is only suitable for those who don't have a large library of files, videos and images.
As a quick example, an image shot on the iPhone 14 Pro takes up around 2.5MB of memory so Apple's free plan will hold 2,300 images. Videos can be a lot more demanding on space with a 10-second clip shot in 4K using up 25MB of space - that means you'd get just 200 short home movies stored on Apple's 5GB space.
Most people need way more memory and that's why Apple offers premium upgrades.
Although the price increase won't please Apple users, this is a vital service as it keeps all of your memories safe. Should the worse happen and your iPhone gets lost or stolen your images won't be gone for good.
To check your iCloud plan simply head to Settings the tap on your name at the top of the menu options. Then tap on iCloud and Manage Your Plan. Here you can either upgrade or downgrade your plan.
Although the price of individual iCloud storage has risen, Apple hasn't yet increased its bundle costs.
That means you can sign up for plans such as Apple One and get Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, 200GB of iCloud storage, Apple News+ and Apple Fitness for a price of £32.95 which is a considerable saving of over £20.
There's also Apple's Family Plan which costs £22.95 per month (saving £9) and the Individual option which costs £16.95 per month (saving £7).
