Chelsea face a nervous wait on Millie Bright's fitness following their crucial 1-0 Champions League quarter-final win over Lyon.
Captain for the night, the England centre-back went off during the game following a challenge with Lyon winger Dephine Cascarino before half-time. Bright will undergo a scan on a the knee injury today but did describe it as "just a niggle" after the match.
Bright received treatment on the pitch, following the tackle and initially tried to play on. But she was unable to get to half-time and was replaced by Magdalena Eriksson after 44 minutes.
"I'm good," Bright told The Athletic "Obviously just can't risks can't be selfish in those those moments. We have a deep enough squad players to come on and yes, I'm great. I'll obviously have to get assessed and we'll go from there.
"It's just a niggle in my knee, we don't know the ins and outs yet, so we'll have to see. It was just after I cleared the ball and then I was trying to get the ref's attention to go down when I knew I couldn't continue, but you have to put the team first in that situation and make sure there are 11 fit players on the pitch."
Chelsea will be sweating on the powerful centre-backs' fitness, with a huge WSL title clash at Man City on Sunday before the return leg against Lyon next Thursday. Bright has played every game in the Blues' Champions League campaign to date.
Emma Hayes' team came away with a crucial victory over the holders thanks to a superb curling finish from Guro Reiten and will defend the one goal lead at Stamford Bridge next week. After the win Hayes said she was unsure on the severity of Bright's injury.
"I don't know," she said. "But she'll have a scan., I haven't seen her since but I know she couldn't carry on."
It is unknown if Bright will travel back with the Chelsea squad or return on her own following the scan. The Euro 2022 winner has been one of Chelsea's outstanding performers in the Champions League this season, scoring the only goal in a crucial 1-0 win away at PSG in the group stage.
