A milk bottle business owner says Liz Truss' business energy cap is "fake news" because he is still facing a £4million bill - up from £1million. Kuldeep Singh, 55, is a director at Blowplast, a plastic moulding company which makes milk bottles.
His business in High Wycombe was expected to face a £6m energy bill in October and now, even with the Government support, he is expected to face a bill of £4m, he says. He was initially happy when he heard help was being offered, but changed his mind when he looked at the detail, he said.
The support package announced by the Government includes reducing the price paid for energy from October 1 to help people get through the winter months. Now, after going over the announcement and researching the proposal, Kuldeep said he is disappointed and the 21p per kilowatt-hour for electricity cap is "fake news".
He said: "The 21p is used to grab the headline. It looks like the bills will still go up from £1m a year to £4m.
"This is a massive burden on business. The 21p is just fake news.
"I am just feeling like it is not enough. We will still need to find £3m.
"I would have been happy to find £1m more but now I have been told that is not the case. We still need more detail, we have not been given the full detail."
Kuldeep said he feels deflated after originally being happy with the announcement, to now realising it is not enough to support his business. He said: "We were very happy this morning.
"We are grateful for any help, but it is a matter for survival. [I have been told] on top of the 21p, the third party charges will be up to 12 to 15p.
"It is looking like it is going to be from 36 to 40p. We are a company using 11 million kilowatt-hours a year, there should be more support for bigger users.
"This is a massive strain for the big users like us. They said there would be more support but I haven't seen anything in the announcement."
