In the latest wave of unrest in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, militants engaged in a shootout with Pakistani soldiers, resulting in the deaths of six soldiers. The incident took place during an overnight operation in North Waziristan, where six militants were also killed, according to a statement released by the army.
Simultaneously, a separate operation in Swat led to the killing of two militants, one of whom was reportedly involved in an attack on a convoy of foreign ambassadors earlier this month.
Meanwhile, Islamabad remained under a lockdown for the second consecutive day, with cellphone services suspended to prevent rallies in support of imprisoned ex-leader Imran Khan. The city's entry and exit points were blocked off with shipping containers, although videos surfaced showing Khan's supporters attempting to reach Islamabad in vehicles.
The chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, along with others in the convoy, worked tirelessly throughout the night to clear the road of shipping containers, as per reports from Khan's political party.
Despite the ongoing situation in Islamabad, Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party announced plans to hold a rally in Lahore, indicating continued political activity amidst the security challenges in the region.
