Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher to match $3m in donations for Ukrainian refugees

Mila Kunis and her husband Ashton Kutcher have vowed to match up to $3 million (£2.5 million) in donations to support Ukrainian refugees.

The 38-year-old actress, who was born in Chernivtsi, Ukraine, condemned Russia’s “unjust attack” on her country.

Writing on the couple’s GoFundMe page, Kunis said: “Today, I am a proud Ukrainian. While my family came to the United States in 1991, I was born in Chernivtsi, Ukraine in 1983.

“Ukrainians are proud and brave people who deserve our help in their time of need. This unjust attack on Ukraine and humanity at large is devastating and the Ukrainian people need our support.

“While we are witnessing the bravery of Ukrainians, we are also bearing witness to the unimaginable burden of those who have chosen safety.

“Countless amounts of people have left everything they know and love behind to seek refuge. With nothing but what they could carry, these Ukrainian refugees are in need of housing and supplies right away.”

The funds raised will go to Flexport, which is organising aid deliveries to refugee sites in neighbouring countries, and AirBnB, to provide free short-term housing for Ukraine’s refugees.

The fund has already raised more than $3m, with Kunis and Kutcher aiming to raise $30m in total (£25m).

Speaking in a video alongside his wife, Kutcher said: “I have never been more proud to be married to a Ukrainian”.

American venture capitalist, Ron Conway, has donated $2.5m (£1.87m) to the couple’s fund. “I stand with Ukraine,” he said, as he urged people to donate.

More than a million people have fled Ukraine since last week’s invasion.
