Mikey Johnston's Celtic future addressed by Ange Postecoglou

Ange Postecoglou has addressed Mikey Johnston's Celtic future.

The 23-year-old is currently out on loan with Portuguese side Vitoria Guimaraes.

The winger appears to be enjoying his stint in the Primeira Liga so far, and the Scotland U21 cap could even help Vitoria seal a European spot for next term should they continue their consistent good form.

Johnston has been in the news this week, with the Hoops loanee set to be called into the Republic of Ireland set-up as he changes his allegiances from Scotland to Ireland.

Stephen Kenny has reportedly convinced Johnston to make that change of international side, with the paperwork being close to completion with FIFA.

The green light is set to be handed to the winger for the double-header with France and Latvia later this month.

And Postecoglou has opened the door to Johnston continuing his Celtic career when he returns to Parkhead this summer, with his contract set to run until 2026.

Postecoglou said: "In terms of his international football, that is a decision he has made and I'm sure he has given that plenty of thought to the people around him. I think international football is a fantastic part of a footballer's career.

"It allows you to have new experiences and different experiences, and an opportunity to take your game to another level because of the different kind of context international football brings.

"Hopefully for him that gives him all of the things he is looking for in his career. In terms of beyond that, he is playing more regularly.

"We needed him to play more regular football and he i,s doing that. At the end of the year we will look at it and decide what is best for his future."
