Mikel Arteta receives injury boost as Arsenal star returns to training ahead of Brighton clash

Arsenal have received an injury boost with midfielder Mohamed Elneny returning to individual training.

Elneny started in an FA Cup win over Oxford United back in January, playing the entire 90 minutes. However, the Egyptian international has been absent since, sustaining a knee injury in training before a club statement then confirmed he would be on the sidelines for an unspecified extended period of time.

The former Basel man successfully underwent surgery and he has since penned a new deal at the Emirates Stadium that will keep him at the club until at least the end of the 2023/24 campaign. Now, the 30-year-old has taken to social media to update his followers on his progress, confirming that he is now back training on his own at the club's London Colney pitch.

"Feeling amazing to be outside on the pitches," he wrote on Twitter. "Can’t wait to join the team for training again soon."

Next up for the Gunners is a Premier League clash against Brighton on Sunday afternoon, with Mikel Arteta's side hoping for title rivals Manchester City to drop points against Everton earlier on in the day.

City currently sit one point ahead of the Gunners, although the reigning champions still have a game in hand to play - coincidentally against Brighton.
