Mikel Arteta proven right on Arsenal title race claim after Reiss Nelson goal vs Bournemouth

Champions win late. That's how the old footballing cliche goes and its one that Arsenal fans will be hopeful rings true by late May as the Gunners continue to earn points in challenging situations.

Mikel Arteta's side have now won 15 points from losing positions this season, the most of any in the Premier League so far - rivals Manchester City have only earned seven points from one less game trailed. The latest big turnaround for the north London outfit came on Saturday as Arsenal went two-goals down to Bournemouth an hour into the game.

Thomas Partey and Ben White hit a quickfire double to pull the game back level before Reiss Nelson's appearance from the bench ended with a 97th minute strike from the edge of the box to win the game. It adds to an incredible goal contribution record the Hale End academy product has this campaign.

In just 84 minutes of Premier League football played, Nelson has managed three goals and two assists, averaging a goal contribution every 16.8 minutes. It's a great return at some crucial moments from the winger, who has been arguably given few chances to impress Arteta.

It backs up the Spaniard's claim on rotation just a few days ago after victory against Leicester City, when he said: "The fact we have options right now, that we have players coming back from injury is going to be crucial because players cannot maintain the same level for 10 months, it is just impossible. We need to change and be more unpredictable and we have those options now.”

The fact that Nelson is just one of those options among a forward line that was missing Gabriel Jesus, Eddie Nketiah and Leandro Trossard speaks volumes as to how stronger the side is when it comes to the depth of options available. It remains to be seen if the side will be able to get their title push over the line, but they are better placed now than they were this time last year just chasing top four, all down to the squad at hand.
