Arsenal’s 2-1 loss to Brighton last weekend indicated that the squad does not have enough strength in depth in midfield, an issue that Mikel Arteta is keen to address in the summer.
However, Arteta must be careful in his approach when the transfer window opens. The Gunners were keen to sign Juventus ’ Arthur Melo in January but a deal never materialised for the Brazilian – which was the story of the North London outfit’s midseason window generally.
The summer provides Arteta with another opportunity to solve his midfield woes. Roma are expected to reignite their interest in Granit Xhaka when the window opens, meaning the club could need at least two midfielders in order to have the depth required for Arteta to seriously consider competing in all competitions.
