Mikel Arteta has already shown Edu why Arsenal's £15.5m deadline day transfer chance is a risk

The end of the transfer window is fast approaching, and teams are frantically trying to strengthen their squad before deadline day comes to an end at 11pm. While Arsenal do not need to panic in the final hours as their business started off very well, there is still work that can be done to improve the squad.

Arsenal have been on the hunt for a winger throughout the summer transfer window. Mikel Arteta needs to find a player who can provide stern competition for Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli.

One player who specialises in the wide area, and who the club have previously been linked with is Noa Lang. Reports from Italy have claimed that the Dutchman received a Premier League proposal on deadline day. However, Lang has already shown why Arsenal should not be pursuing a deal, as it would certainly be considered a panic buy.

Arteta is thought to be on the lookout for a new winger before the window slams shut, and the unsuccessful pursuit of Raphinha has been the strongest hint yet that the club is serious about recruiting one. Considering there hasn't been any movement since suggests that the chance to secure the Brazilian's services was too good to ignore.

Despite that possible explanation, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Edu already has his sights set on another winger, but Arsenal's silent approach is making it difficult to get clarity over who it could be. Arsenal have been linked with a 'mystery winger', which according to Romano, remains a position Edu and Arteta want to address.

Lang recently admitted in an interview with Dutch news outlet Het Laatste Nieuws that Arsenal tried to sign him in the January transfer window with Italian news outlet Gazzetta Dello Sport claiming him to cost around £25million.

Speaking about a possible move to Arsenal in the January transfer window, Lang told Het Laatste Nieuws : "Because one of them only really left at the last minute [Aubameyang], they wanted to hire someone quickly. But that was no longer possible."

There could be a different outcome this time, however. Italian journalist Marco Guidi has reported that Clubb Brugge rejected an €18million (£15.5million) offer from Ligue 1 side Lille, but there is another proposal from a Premier League side.

However, Lang has consistently been criticised for problems concerning his attitude throughout his career. Arteta has talked about the importance of creating a competitive dressing room without negative energy, which Lang could have proved to threaten due to claims about him in the past.

Former Inter Milan midfielder Radja Nainggolan criticised the attitude of the winger earlier in the season. "But no matter how good he may be, I can’t stand him. Always gesticulating with his hands and protesting.

"Shutting everyone up after he was invisible for five matches… these are things I can’t live with. If he kept his feet on the ground, he’d be twice as good," he said via Het Nieuwsblad.

The Dutchman also had a falling out with current Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag due to his attitude and this forced the sale of the winger to Belgian side Club Brugge. Speaking on the matter of attitude and team morale, Arteta said: "If you don't have the right culture, in the difficult moments, the tree is going to shake, so my job is to convince everybody that this is how we are going to live, and if you are going to be part of this organisation it has to be in these terms and in this way."

Signing Lang on deadline day would be a panic buy and a deal that the Gunners should certainly look to avoid.
