Mikel Arteta handed new Arsenal transfer budget as Declan Rice and Moises Caicedo lead revamp

Arsenal are gearing up for yet another busy transfer window as this summer offers them a huge chance to build on their success this season. The Gunners moved from top-four outsiders to title challengers in the space of a year, setting an incredible pace in the Premier League.

That didn't last though as they eventually faltered and Manchester City were there to take advantage and make it three title victories in the last three campaigns. Arsenal are unlikely to go away any time soon though, with their young squad far from their peak and a return to top four giving them further financial and bargaining power in the market.

They will want to put that to great use in the upcoming window especially, where their deficiencies can be worked upon to mount another title challenge. "We need to identify how we can improve," sporting director Edu Gaspar said when asked about the path ahead for Arsenal earlier this week.

"If we have to improve specific, individual positions, individuals, final turn, midfielders, our defence. We already know what it is because our style of play with Mikel Arteta is very clear. When you see Arsenal play now, you know it’s our style. Now we have to understand how to enhance our athletes so the team can improve and reach a new level in terms of performance.

"I think there is a level above. Mikel and I talked, and we believe we can raise our performance to a new level. Now we have to do good work in the transfer window, we have to understand what we need, get the right athletes, the right traits, and the right athlete mentality so we can raise our squad’s level again."

It appears as though the north London outfit will have plenty of spending power in the transfer window too as the Evening Standard reports that a budget of £200million is available this summer. It claims that the midfield will be the main point of reinforcement in the coming weeks.

football.london understands that Declan Rice has been made a priority for Mikel Arteta this summer, while January target Moises Caicedo has been made available by Brighton, according to their manager Roberto De Zerbi. That's not all though as a whole host of other players such as Mason Mount and Ilkay Gundogan are also reported to be on a shortlist, with Granit Xhaka likely to leave the club for Bayer Leverkusen.

There could be room for signings elsewhere too as Marc Guehi is one name linked as an option in the defence, while reports from Germany claim that an offer has been made for Real Valladolid youngster Ivan Fresneda. It remains to be seen how many targets are required in the window, but the Gunners look set to make their mark with some incomings, though some exits also seem likely.
