Mikel Arteta handed Arsenal injury worry amid ongoing Liverpool postponement concerns

Arsenal are set to be without right-back Cedric Soares for their Carabao Cup semi-final second-leg against Liverpool, football.london understands.

The Gunners as it stands are set to host Jurgen Klopp's men at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday evening as they aim to book their place in the final alongside Chelsea.

Following a 0-0 draw with the Reds in the first-leg at Anfield, the clash will be decided on the night with the away goal rule absent in this season's competition, but regardless the Gunners will almost certainly have to do it without their Portuguese right-back.

football.london understands that the former Southampton man is yet to return to training after getting injured in the stalemate at Anfield. He was withdrawn in just the 14th-minute of the tie, eventually being replaced by Calum Chambers.

Cedric is still feeling pain in his hip, and his current inability to take part in training and run without pain would make the 30-year-old a huge doubt for Thursday’s match and if that is the case, he would be another name to add to Mikel Arteta’s already extensive Arsenal injury list.

Takehiro Tomiyasu, Emile Smith Rowe, Bukayo Saka, Sead Kolasinac, Kieran Tierney and Calum Chambers are all already doubts with respective problems, whilst Martin Odegaard's positive Covid-19 test has kept him on the sidelines.

Thomas Partey, Mohamed Elneny and Nicolas Pepe are all out due to their African Cup of Nations commitments. Despite Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's return from the tournament, it is unlikely he will be eligible as he undergoes more tests for his heart problems.

Granit Xhaka also remains out of contention due to his suspension for the red card he was awarded in the first leg, while Pablo Mari is set to leave the club on loan this week, further depleting the squad's numbers.

That list has seen the Gunners’ clash with Liverpool be called into question. There are some suggestions that the game will be postponed for a second time, after originally being moved due to a Covid-19 outbreak.

It remains to be seen whether that would be the case but Arsenal have already had a game postponed over the past few days, with Saturday's North London Derby against Tottenham Hotspur being called off.
