Mike Tomlin Was Very Honest When Asked About Steeler Fans’ Chants for OC to Be Fired

The Steelers clawed their way to a 26–22 victory against the Browns on Monday Night Football. However, Pittsburgh’s offense was not impressive and relied on two touchdowns from the defense to pick up the win, which led the home fans at Acrisure Stadium to chant “fire Canada” in reference to the team’s offensive coordinator Matt Canada.

Pittsburgh registered just 255 yards of total offense Monday. Of that 255, quarterback Kenny Pickett threw for 222 on 15-of-30 passing with one touchdown and an interception. The Steelers’ rushing attack compiled only 55 yards on 21 carries.

Despite the chants directed at one of his top assistants, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin appreciates the “passion” of his fanbase and remains committed to bringing quality professional football to the Steel City each week.

“… This is the sport entertainment business,” Tomlin said during a press conference Tuesday. “It’s our job to win and thus entertain them. We don’t begrudge them for that. We want them to be fat and sassy and spoiled. That’s our job.”

In Week 1, Pittsburgh carried a similar stat line offensively, registering 239 yards of offense with 198 through the air and a dismal 41 on the ground in a 30–7 loss to the 49ers. In addition to Pickett’s 198 yards, he finished the game with one touchdown and two interceptions while being sacked five times.

The Steelers will return to action on Sunday, hoping to get the offense on track against the Raiders.
