The last time the Pittsburgh Steelers drafted a quarterback in the first round, they became a starter almost purely by chance. It could be different this time around. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin spoke to Rich Eisen on NFL Network and noted that rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett has a chance to be the Week One starter.
If Pickett does end up starting this season, he will have to beat out veterans Mason Rudolph and Mitch Trubisky. Trubisky was signed this offseason to be the bridge starter after the retirement of Ben Roethlisberger. However, I’m sure Trubisky joined the team knowing the Steelers would be looking at a young quarterback in the draft.
Will Pickett end up the opening week starter or can the former first-round pick Trubisky hold him off? Let us know in the comments below.
#Steelers coach Mike Tomlin on @NFLNetwork is asked if Kenny Pickett has a chance to be his starter Week 1: “Yeah he certainly has a chance. … We felt he came ready made and hopefully that’s an asset to him being ready — if performance dictates."
