Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said on Friday that Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati welcomed on Friday Iran’s readiness to contribute in building two power plants in Lebanon, linking their realization with reaching a nuclear deal between Iran and world powers.
During his second day visit to Beirut, the Iranian Minister separately sat down with President Michel Aoun, Prime Minister Najib Mikati, Speaker Nabih Berri and Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah.
The Iranian minister arrived in Beirut on Thursday coming from Damascus.
Upon his arrival to the Lebanese capital, Amirabdollahian had expressed his country’s readiness to contribute to building two power plants in Lebanon, each with a capacity of 1,000 megawatts.
Amirabdollahian said he discussed the issue with Lebanese officials he met, also revealing that his country was ready to support Lebanon in all fields, "most notably in the provision of wheat".
According to a presidential statement, the Minister also discussed with Aoun the Russian war in Ukraine and the latest developments on efforts to reactivate the nuclear deal.
“President Aoun informed the Iranian Minister that Lebanon considers any positive development in the Vienna negotiations to reach a final agreement between Iran, the Security Council group and Germany will have positive repercussions on stability and peace in the countries of the region and the world,” the statement said.
The President also highlighted the file of Syrian refugees in Lebanon and the negative repercussions their presence has on the country.
He wished that “Iran provides help for Lebanon to find a solution to this crisis, which has exhausted the Lebanese economy and has become a great social and financial burden.”
Aoun and Amirabdullahian discussed the Vienna negotiations and the positions of the concerned countries. Aoun expressed his optimism that the talks would lead to positive results soon, according to the statement.
In addition, the Minister pointed out that the military developments between Russia and Ukraine have put weight on the ongoing negotiations as well as on the situation in the countries of the world.
Amirabdullahian then reiterated Iran’s provision of the aid that Lebanon needs in all fields, adding that he had discussed with Lebanese officials, especially Mikati, Iran’s readiness to provide Lebanon with wheat and other necessary food products amid a possible food crisis as a result of the Russian-Ukrainian war.
Meanwhile, Hezbollah’s public relations office said that Nasrallah and the Iranian Minister discussed the latest developments in Lebanon and the region, without further elaborating.
On the other hand, the Iranian official affirmed that all parties in the region will win if a nuclear agreement is reached in Vienna.
