Miguel Almiron reveals Newcastle dressing room 'truth' on Europe and declares trophy intent

Miguel Almiron believes Newcastle United are now 'dreaming' of qualifying for Europe. The in-form Paraguay playmaker also declared the team's intent to 'fight' for a trophy this season.

Almiron continued his fine start to the campaign with another goal as the Magpies pulled off a sensational victory at Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday. The attacker netted the second in the 2-1 win, with Harry Kane's second-half strike ultimately proving to be a consolation.

It was a result which has lifted Eddie Howe's side into a top-four spot, although Chelsea and Manchester United both hold games in hand. The strong start to the season has raised talk over Newcastle's ambitions for the current campaign, with the club so far losing just once so far.

Howe has been keen to avoid talk over targets, insisting the focus should be on maintaining performance levels on a game-by-game basis. However, Almiron has confirmed the squad are hopeful of booking their place in Europe next season, while also outlining his belief the team can challenge for silverware.

When asked if he is 'dreaming of' qualifying for Europe, he told NUFC TV: "The truth is, yes we are. Before the season started, we were feeling more ambitious than before. We have great players and I think we will be fighting for a trophy this season."
