Takeoff shot dead: Migos rapper dies aged 28

Migos rapper Takeoff was shot dead in Houston in the early hours of Tuesday morning, according to reports.

The 28-year-old, whose real name is Kirshnik Khari Ball, is said to have been playing a dice game with his bandmate Quavo when a shooter opened fire at bowling alley 810 Billiards & Bowling at 2.30am. Law enforcement rushed to the scene, where Takeoff was pronounced dead, writes The Mirror.

Footage of Quavo trying to help his bandmate has reportedly been seen by TMZ, with the heartbroken star calling for help as his nephew Takeoff lies on the ground wounded. The publication reports another two people were shot and taken to hospital and that Quavo wasn't injured in the shooting.

And fans took to social media to express their condolences following the sad news. One wrote: "This is really devastating", while another added: "I can't believe this, it's so devastating."

A third fan chimed: "I can’t believe this. Prayers to for his family, Quavo, Offset & everyone around him". Just hours earlier, Takeoff had taken to Instagram, sharing a photo of himself at the bowling alley where he and Quavo had headed to celebrate Jas Prince's birthday.

Takeoff is best known as the member of hip hop group Migos along with his uncle Quavo and first cousin once removed, Offset. Kirshnik was born in Lawrenceville, Georgia, where he lived with his mother, along with family members Quavo and Offset.

Migos struck gold with their single Bad and Boujee. The song soared to number one and went on to be certified four times platinum. The band released their second album in 2017, with it debuting at number one on the Billboard Us 200.

Culture II was released a year later and became Migos's second album to debut at number 1 on the Billboard 200, moving 199,000 equivalent units, including 38,000 copies sold, in its first week of release.

Migos' representatives and Houston Police have been contacted for comment.
